As an Americorps*VISTA Member you will receive:

  • a modest monthly subsistence

Duties

VISTA Volunteers will work to build the capacity of communities to mitigate social and health risk factors by forming partnerships and coalitions, mobilizing resources from public and private entities and establishing community service as a major solution to community problems. Duties will require a great deal of coordination and collaboration with state and local agencies and non-profit groups. VISTA positions will work to build the capacity of communities by forming partnerships and mobilizing resources from public and private entities.

VISTAs will also identify current activities, resources and needs in the community; work with local community development councils to gather and review data and establish goals/objectives; expand the use of volunteers and community service programs; write and coordinate grants; build lasting community coalitions; establish mentoring programs for youth.

Qualifications

Superior written and oral communication skills; experience with organizational relations; demonstrated initiative and motivation; good interpersonal skills; ability to work independent of supervision.

Prefer (but not necessary); Experience working with volunteer recruitment/management and community organizing; college degree or college courses in Public Administration, Community Health or Public Health Administration or related fields; elementary computer literacy; knowledge of statistics and community planning; own transportation.

You must be a US Citizen. You may be required to submit to a federal background check.

Placement

Individual placements will be assigned throughout the state. Positions are for one year beginning approximately in either January or July. Applicants must meet the requirements of the Volunteer Station and Sponsor. Placement is contingent upon recommendation to and decision by the Corporation for National and Community Service.
